EXTRAORDINARY DEVELOPMENT WITH PHEDONAS - CASE WAS SUSPENDED BY THE LIMASSOL COURT AND REGISTERED IN THE PAPHOS COURT - SET FOR 21 APRIL - Filenews 31/3 by Ioanna Mantziipa

There was a development in the case of the suspended mayor Phaedon Phedonos, which concerns a complaint about an alleged rape that dates back to 2014. Although the case was registered before the Limassol District Court and was set for April 2, in order to be referred for trial to the Permanent Criminal Court, in the end there was a reversal in the nick of time.

According to reliable information from Filenews, a representative of the Limassol Prosecutor's Office appeared in Court this morning, which, exercising the powers of the Attorney General, suspended the criminal prosecution against the accused Phaedon Phedonos.

In view of the above development, the Court granted permission to interrupt the proceedings. The same reliable information states that the case was registered with the Paphos District Court and was set for April 21.

It is recalled that the indictment includes four charges, which concern the offenses: (1) rape, (2) indecent assault, (3) roaming under sedation for the purpose of committing a felony or misdemeanor and (4) assault causing actual bodily harm.

The case of alleged rape was investigated by a special investigative team set up for this purpose. According to the complaint, the felony was committed 12 years ago, i.e. in 2014.

It is recalled that the investigators, who acted in secrecy, allegedly received more than 20 testimonies about the case. Among them, as it was written, include people who held positions in the public sector at the time in question
