The Police arrested six young people, four of whom were minors, during the checks for the lamps, as they were found with dozens of firecrackers, aggressive instruments and drugs.

With intensified patrols and controls in all provinces, the actions of the Police continued yesterday, as well as during the night, to prevent the use of firecrackers, the lighting of lamps and phenomena of juvenile delinquency.

In the province of Paphos, following information about firecrackers, around 10:00 last night, members of the Police located three persons in the area, of which the two minors 15 years old and the third 18 years old, in whose possession a total of 131 firecrackers were found, while an iron fist was also found in the possession of the 18-year-old. The three were arrested for possession of explosives, while the 18-year-old was also arrested for possession of an offensive instrument.

In the province of Nicosia, during the night, members of the Police responded to incidents of lighting a fire and the use of firecrackers, while they also proceeded to arrest two minors, 15 and 17 years old, who they found pushing a green trash can, with which they were carrying a number of wooden pallets and two plastic chairs, which according to them they stole from an adjacent building. 12 firecrackers were also found in the possession of the 17-year-old.

In the province of Larnaca, during the coordinated operations for the measures to prevent lampshades, members of the Police Directorate and the MMAD carried out a check in an area in Oroklini where a number of people had gathered, who lit a fire in an open area.

Upon the arrival of the police, the young people fled, with the members of the Police subjecting a check to a 29-year-old man, who was preparing to leave the scene, driving his car. The 29-year-old was arrested for the spontaneous offenses of drug possession, carrying knives, possession of offensive instruments, and possession of burglary tools, after two bags of white crystalline substance, a tobacco syringe with traces of white substance, a precision scale also with traces of white substance, a half-smoked handmade cigarette with industrialized tobacco mixed with green dry plant matter, were found in his car. two knives, a bat with a wooden handle ending in wire, a scalpel,  iron cutting scissors, and a hood.

The Police continues with an increased presence and targeted actions in all provinces, with the aim of preventing dangerous behaviours and enhancing the safety of citizens, while calling on the public to show responsibility and cooperate with the competent authorities.

A fire broke out in a warehouse-container in Limassol, with authorities investigating the possibility of arson by young people.

In a statement, the Fire Brigade states that at 18:14 a response was made to a fire in an abandoned prefabricated warehouse (container) in Agios Athanasios, Limassol.

From the fire and heat, the warehouse and its contents were extensively damaged.

2 staffed vehicles responded to extinguish the fire.

The causes are being investigated, but there is a possibility that it is a malicious act of young people.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As part of these operations, six persons were arrested for various offenses such as, among others, burglary and theft, carrying knives and traffic violations.

During the night, 528 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 709 drivers and passengers were checked. At the same time, 44 inspections of premises were carried out, during which 9 complaints emerged regarding the terms of their operating license.

During traffic checks carried out, 389 complaints were made about various traffic violations, of which 187 concern driving at excessive speed. A total of 105 alcohol tests were carried out during which 4 drivers were found to be positive, while 3 persons were found positive in a preliminary drug test. Also, as part of the police examinations, seven vehicles were detained.

Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

Members of the Police proceeded in the early hours of today, to the spontaneous arrest of a 45-year-old man, who was located inside a house, in Nicosia, during an investigation into a possible burglary.

The offenses of illegal entry, illegal possession of property and illegal possession of burglary tools are being investigated against him.

Around 1 a.m. today, information was received about a possible burglary in a house in Nicosia. Members of the Police went to the scene and with the help of the manager of the house entered it. During the investigation that followed, the 45-year-old was found in a room of the house, who was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal entry.

A physical search of the arrested person followed, during which various burglary tools were found, as well as other objects for which he did not give satisfactory explanations for their origin.

The 45-year-old was taken into custody to facilitate investigations.
