A fire that broke out around 3.30 a.m. at dawn in a café in Kato Paphos is attributed to a malicious act. The fire was extinguished by the Fire Service, before spreading inside the premises, causing damage to the façade and glass showcase of the premises.
The tent was cordoned off by the Police and put under guard. Today there will be examinations to identify evidence and testimony that could lead to the identification of the perpetrators.

A martial arts instructor was sentenced to an immediate three-year prison sentence who was found guilty, after a hearing, of 8 counts of offenses related to a case of sexual abuse of a child. The decision was issued on Friday, April 3, 2026, by the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia.
Specifically, the convicted person was found guilty of offenses in violation of the Prevention and Combating of Sexual Abuse, Sexual Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography Law, Law 91(I)/2014.
According to the facts of the case, the convicted in 8 different cases between the years 2019 to 2021, abusing a position of trust over a child, being the child's instructor in martial arts, sexually abused the child consisting of touching and caressing.
In its decision, the Court notes, among other things, the exacerbation and unprecedented scourge of this nature of offenses, particularly blaming the relationship of trust that was created and degenerated in this particular case.
Furthermore, the Court issued a decree of supervision of the convicted person by the Convicted Supervision Authority for as long as he serves the sentence imposed and for another 2 years from his release. It also issued a decree that the convicted person should not be employed in places where children are or frequent for a period of 2 years from the day of his release.
The Attorney General of the Republic will study the decision, examining whether he will appeal against it for inadequacy of the sentence. On behalf of the Attorney General of the Republic, the case was handled by the Lawyer of the Republic, Ms. Stalo Papoui.

Six persons were arrested by the Police for different serious offenses.
The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
Preventive policing operations resulted in the arrest of six persons for various offences, including theft, illegal possession of property and illegal possession of drugs.
As part of these operations, during the night, 520 vehicles were stopped for inspection and a total of 690 drivers and passengers were checked. At the same time, 50 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency. These inspections resulted in a total of 12 complaints.
During traffic checks carried out, 246 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations. Of these, 59 complaints from drivers for violating the speed limit stand out. 131 tests were carried out for driving under the influence of alcohol, during which 13 drivers were found positive, while one driver was found positive in a test for driving under the influence of drugs. As part of the police examinations, 6 vehicles were detained.
Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

The Police arrested two 38-year-old men yesterday, as part of an investigation into a case involving illegal possession, supply and possession of drugs for the purpose of supply.
Members of YKAN, during a coordinated operation and after evaluating information, stopped yesterday for control two persons, aged 38, who were in an open area in the area of Nicosia.
In a search, a nylon bag, which contained methamphetamine with a gross weight of 353 grams and which the 38-year-old had previously been seen handing over to the second suspect, was found in the possession of one and confiscated.
Subsequently, a search was carried out at the home of the second 38-year-old, where a quantity of methamphetamine with a gross weight of 953 grams was located and confiscated.
The two suspects were arrested and taken into custody, while today they are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court, for the issuance of a detention order. One of the suspects was also arrested for the crime of illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus.YKAN (Nicosia District Unit) continues the examinations.
Authorities in Nicosia are on alert after two vehicles of a 48-year-old man were set on fire outside his home.
According to the first information of the Police, around 11 p.m. yesterday, a fire broke out in two cars, which were parked outside the house of their 48-year-old owner in Nicosia.
As a result of the fire, which was extinguished by members of the Fire Service, the two vehicles suffered extensive damage to the front.
Members of the Police went to the scene where they conducted examinations. Investigations revealed that the fire was set maliciously.

The Police arrested a 61-year-old man yesterday, to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of assault, causing malicious damage, threatening and causing concern.
The case was reported yesterday by an employee of the company, which manages the mobile photo-marking cameras. According to the complaint, around 4.45 p.m. yesterday, while the complainant was inside the photo-tagging vehicle, which was parked in an area of the Nicosia district, for a traffic check, he was approached by an unknown man, who, after opening the door of the photo-marking vehicle, allegedly started shouting and threatening the complainant. The unknown person then allegedly grabbed a purse, which belongs to the complainant and caused damage to it.
From the Police examinations, testimony was obtained against a 61-year-old man, who was arrested under a court warrant. After being questioned, he was charged in writing and released to be summoned before a Court.
