The new anti-drone system that was installed and operated in the Central Prison just 48 hours ago began to perform.

It located and intercepted a drone that was flying in the early hours of Sunday over the prison courtyard and was carrying three mobile phones and three chargers in a ball.

According to the data recorded by the system, the drone flew at a great height over the Central Prison and proceeded to drop the objects, with the aim of illegally importing them into the penitentiary.

The anti-drone system, which immediately detected the drone, has the ability to record its route, as well as all relevant operational data, confirming from the first moment its effectiveness in preventing the illegal import of mobile phones, drugs and other prohibited items within the Central Prison.

The mobile phones and chargers were handed over to the Cyprus Police, which began investigating the case and is using the data recorded by the system to identify the sender. Because he recorded the position from which he flew the drone, an attempt will be made to identify the person who directed it so that he suffers the consequences. Investigations are also being made for the buyer of mobile phones on the basis of their serial numbers.

This development confirms in practice the importance of strengthening security measures in the Central Prisons and the firm decision of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order to substantially shield the prison system against any form of delinquency.

It is noted that in prisons there is also a system for locating the signal emitted by mobile phones and the application of a system that will block the signal remains. This will put an end to the commission of crimes on demand by prisons.

It is noted that, according to our information, from the beginning of the year until today, 41 mobile phones, 33 chargers and quantities of various drugs as well as sharp objects have been found.
