The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, three persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, impersonation, illegal possession of drugs, driving a stolen vehicle, as well as driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

As part of these operations, during the night, 492 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 689 persons in them were checked. At the same time, 33 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which nine (9) complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 301 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 14 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police examinations, seven (7) vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints made for traffic violations, the 166 complaints for exceeding the speed limit, the four (4) complaints for driving under the influence of alcohol, which emerged after 79 checks of vehicle drivers, stand out.

Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

Members of the Police proceeded to arrest a 50-year-old man, in connection with an investigated case of robbery, committed last Saturday night, April 25, in the province of Famagusta, with the victim being a 20-year-old man.

As part of the investigation of the case by the Famagusta TAE, evidence emerged against the 50-year-old, against whom an arrest warrant was issued. He was located and arrested by members of the TAE, shortly before 6.30 pm yesterday and was taken into custody for the purposes of police examinations.

According to the data under examination, around 10.00 pm on April 25, while a 20-year-old man was walking in an area in Ayia Napa, he was attacked by an unknown man, who then, under the threat of a knife, took a sum of money and his mobile phone from the 20-year-old.

In the 20-year-old's attempt to resist, he was injured in the left arm by the knife carried by the perpetrator. The 20-year-old was taken by ambulance to the General Hospital of Famagusta, where he was treated and discharged.

The TAE of Famagusta continues the exams.

The 24-year-old man who fell from a garbage truck a few days ago, while working in waste collection, is in critical condition, in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

As filenews is informed, the accident is being investigated by both the Nicosia Traffic Police and the Labour Inspection Department, as it has not been clarified whether it is a traffic accident and/or a labour accident.

The authorities are in the process of taking statements from the driver of the garbage truck as well as from the second person who worked with the 24-year-old in the collection. In addition, information is being sought from any passers-by as well as the taking of material from closed circuits monitoring the area.

The conditions, as it was clarified to us, are currently being sought.

It is recalled that the accident occurred last Thursday, April 23, 2026, on Austria Street in the direction of Kafkasou Street in Strovolos.

A 35-year-old Ukrainian man has been identified as the victim of a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon in Akrotiri.

According to statements released on Sunday, police said the victim, Oleksandr Denysenko, a permanent resident of Cyprus, died at the scene after a motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car at around 1.39pm.

A female passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Limassol general hospital for treatment.  
Both riders were wearing full protective equipment at the time of the crash.

The driver of the car was initially arrested and questioned, having later been released on bail.  
Authorities said a breathalyser test returned a negative result.  He is expected to appear before court at a later stage.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision and have appealed for information that may assist inquiries.
