Members of the Anti-Drug Service stopped for control yesterday afternoon in the area of Paphos, a car driven by a 27-year-old foreigner, with a 33-year-old foreigner as a passenger.

During the subsequent search of the vehicle, five packages containing green dry cannabis plant matter, with a total weight of about 6 grams, were found. Two packages containing a white substance, similar to cocaine, with a total weight of approximately one gram and six packages containing a white crystalline substance, similar to methamphetamine, with a total weight of approximately one gram were also found.

The 27-year-old stated that the above substances belong to him and he was arrested for flagrante delicto. A further search of the vehicle also found a sum of money, which was received as evidence as part of the investigation of the case.

Subsequently, the 27-year-old was taken to his home for an investigation under a court warrant. When the members of YKAN entered the house, two unknown persons were found in a bedroom on the first floor. One of them fled by jumping from a balcony door, without being able to stop and verify his details.

The second person, a 28-year-old man, was stopped and it was found after examinations that he resides illegally in the territory of the Republic, as a result of which he was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal stay.

In another bedroom on the first floor, which was locked and for which the keys were found in the possession of the 27-year-old, thirteen packages containing cannabis, with a total weight of about 14 grams161 packages containing plant matter similar to synthetic cannabis, with a total weight of about 40 grams and a precision scale with traces of cannabis, were found.

Today, the 27-year-old is expected to be brought before the Paphos District Court for the issuance of a detention order.

The Police arrested a 57-year-old man yesterday to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of illegal possession and use of drugs, illegal possession of drugs for the purpose of supplying another person and money laundering.

This is a case of locating and confiscating a quantity of cocaine, with a gross weight of 9 kilograms and 94 grams, in Limassol, for which a 45-year-old man was arrested in August 2025. In addition to the cocaine, in the possession of the 45-year-old, 42 boxes of duty-free cigarettes and a sum of money amounting to €2,525 were found during a search.

As part of the investigation of the case, testimony was secured against the 57-year-old, who was arrested yesterday by virtue of a court warrant and taken into custody, to facilitate investigations. Today the 57-year-old is expected to appear before the Limassol District Court for registration of a case and referral to the Criminal Court.

As for the first arrested, a case is under trial at the Limassol Criminal Court.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, seven (7) persons were arrested for various offenses, such as failure to appear in Court (2 cases), illegal possession of property, illegal possession and transport of a noxious gas launcher, illegal possession of property and carrying a knife, illegal entry into the Republic, as well as illegal possession of drugs.

As part of these operations, during the night, 373 drivers and 77 passengers were stopped and checked.

At the same time, 35 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency.

During traffic checks carried out, 228 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 9 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.

Of the complaints made, 110 driver complaints for exceeding the speed limit stand out, while as part of the police examinations, 3 vehicles were detained.

Also, 60 alcohol tests were carried out, where two complaints emerged, while one complaint for driving under the influence of drugs emerged after an inspection.

Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The competent authorities are examining a serious complaint, after the serious injury of a newborn at the Larnaca General Hospital.

According to what the mother complained, after the birth of her child, the newborn was placed in hot water during a bath, as a result of which he suffered burns to the lower extremities.

The infant's health condition was considered serious, which made it necessary to transfer him to Makarios Hospital, where he is being treated.

In his statements to filenews, the spokesman of OKYPY, Charalambos Charilaou, stated that the incident is under investigation.

According to the Police, an internal investigation is being carried out by the hospital management. Upon completion of the examinations, the testimony will also be evaluated to decide whether criminal offenses are established.
