As part of the investigation of a case of attempted murder and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, the Police proceeded yesterday to arrest a person.

This is a 21-year-old man, who was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody.

The arrest of the 21-year-old came after an 18-year-old complaint, according to which, around 3:00 in the morning today, while the 18-year-old was moving on foot in an area of the province of Larnaca, a vehicle driver allegedly turned his vehicle against him, as a result of which he hit him.

The 18-year-old went to the First Aid Department of the Larnaca General Hospital, where he received medical treatment and was discharged.

The 21-year-old is expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court tomorrow, for the issuance of a detention order.

A 24-year-old food delivery man reported to the Police yesterday that, around 9.30 last night, he went to an area of Limassol to deliver an order.

According to the 24-year-old, after approaching the delivery point, which was without street lighting, he noticed 3-4 people wearing dark clothes, running towards him in aggressive moods.

The complainant left his electric bicycle and his mobile phone which was installed on the bicycle at the scene and left the place running.

According to the complaint, the unknown persons took his electric bicycle and left the scene, without attacking the 24-year-old.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As part of these operations, seven persons were arrested for offenses related to driving under the influence of alcohol, theft, assault on a police officer as well as drunkenness and anxiety.

During the night, 477 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 621 drivers and passengers were checked. At the same time, 37 inspections of premises were carried out, during which 4 complaints emerged regarding the terms of their operating license.

During traffic checks carried out, 194 complaints were made about various traffic violations, of which 49 concern driving at excessive speed. A total of 302 alcohol tests were carried out during which 21 drivers were found to be positive, while 5 persons were found positive in a preliminary drug test. Also, as part of the police examinations, 12 vehicles were detained.

Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Larnaca Police Department is investigating a case of attempted murder, acts aimed at causing grievous bodily harm, assault causing grievous bodily harm and carrying a knife with an alleged 24-year-old Syrian perpetrator. The offenses were committed on 12/4 around 22:00 in a nightclub in Larnaca.

Specifically, the perpetrator and the victim, who is a 19-year-old Greek Cypriot, were having fun inside the same night property in a coastal area of Larnaca. The two are not related to each other and at some point, apparently due to the crowds, they hit each other's bodies, as a result of which they quarrelled and the victim was attacked with a blow to the face.

Subsequently, as the victim returned to his table, he felt a burn on the back right side of his body and realized that he was bleeding.

The victim was taken to the hospital by his friends and was found to have a wound 3 cm long in the right renal region and renal rupture. He remains for inpatient treatment while his condition, although considered serious, is out of danger.

The scene was examined by members of the Larnaca Police Department where evidence was received, while the examinations that followed identified the details of the perpetrator and an arrest warrant was issued against him and he is wanted.

Two cases of driving under the influence of alcohol are being investigated by the Police in Larnaca and Nicosia.

Specifically, around 6.25 yesterday afternoon, members of the MMAD stopped for control a car that was moving near the flyover of Panagia of Ampelies, which was driven by a 30-year-old man.

Members of the OPOD were called to the scene where they carried out a preliminary breathalyzer test on the 30-year-old driver with a reading of 135μg instead of 9μg which is the maximum limit by the Law, while he was then taken to the Aradipos Police Station where he underwent a final breathalyzer test with a reading of 105μg instead of 9μg.

Upon further inspection, it was found that the 30-year-old was driving his car without a safety certificate, without a registration certificate and without a certificate of suitability.

He was arrested for the above offenses and taken into custody, while this morning he is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for immediate registration of the case.

The Aradipos Police Station continues the examinations.

Besides, around 8.10 last night, members of the OPOD stopped a car driven by a 54-year-old man on a street in Nicosia.  A breathalyzer test was carried out on the driver with a final reading of 96μg instead of 9μg, which is the maximum limit by the Law.

The 54-year-old was arrested, charged in writing and released after previously signing a bail document to appear today before the Nicosia District Court for immediate registration of the case.

The Nicosia Central Police Station continues the examinations.

A 41-year-old woman was arrested in the early hours of this morning at Larnaca airport and taken into custody by virtue of an arrest warrant pending against her.

Specifically, the 41-year-old was arrested upon her arrival in Cyprus, to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of theft of a sum of money from the account of a woman who had died.

According to the data under investigation, between the dates 21/7/2022 and 25/7/2022, the 41-year-old allegedly extracted a total of €17,500 from the above account.
