CENTRAL PRISONS - MOBILES, DRUGS AND OTHER PROHIBITED ITEMS CONFISCATED - CONTROLS STRENGTHENED, WHAT THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE SAYS - Filenews 27/4

Dozens of mobile phones, drugs and other prohibited items have been confiscated in the last four months in the Central Prisons, as part of intensified and thorough checks carried out both inside the penitentiary and at the entrance of visitors.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the controls, which have been in full swing since January 1, have been significantly strengthened, with the aim of preventing the import of illegal items and ensuring the safety and proper functioning of the Prisons.

It reminds that, with the adoption of the relevant amendment to the Prisons Law in February, the import, possession, use or attempt to import mobile phones and other prohibited items into the Prisons constitutes a criminal offense.

Criminalization, he notes, concerns both prisoners and visitors or other persons, while particularly severe penalties are provided for staff members involved in such acts.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Prison Directorate make it clear that any attempt to transport or import prohibited items will be treated with severity and will lead to criminal prosecution and imposition of prison sentences, the announcement concludes.
