BirdLife CYPRUS - BIRDWATCHERS VISIT AKROTIRI MEADOW DESPITE FOOT AND MOUTH MEASURES - WARNS OF DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES - Filenews 20/4

BirdLife Cyprus complains that birdwatchers continue to visit Akrotiri Meadow, despite the fact that it remains closed.

He reminds that the area is closed due to measures for foot-and-mouth disease and that entering the area, at this time, carries a risk of spreading the disease.

The outbreak of the disease in Livadi Akrotiri, as he points out, would have catastrophic consequences, not only for the local cattle breed but also for the ecological integrity of this internationally important wetland, as these animals play a decisive role in its management and conservation.

"We kindly ask everyone not to enter the area under any circumstances," concludes the BirdLife Cyprus post.
