A yellow warning for storms is in effect from the Cyprus Meteorological Department, with the phenomena expected to affect the island from time to time from Friday morning until late at night.

According to the announcement, isolated strong storms will mainly affect the western and southern regions, while hail is also possible. At the same time, the winds will show changes and will strengthen during the phenomena.

The intensity of rainfall is expected to be particularly high locally, reaching between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, which may cause problems in vulnerable areas.

The warning is valid from 11:00 a.m. on Friday until 23:00 p.m. on the same day, with authorities urging the public to be especially careful.

Today, initially, in the interior and in the east there will be locally thin fog which will dissipate very soon, while increased clouds are expected to give locally rains and an isolated storm mainly in the west. Gradually, the weather will become mostly cloudy, with local rains and isolated thunderstorms. The phenomena locally are likely to be intense. Hail is expected to fall in a storm and the winds to change and strengthen. Sleet or even snow will fall on the highest peaks of Troodos. Winds will be mainly southwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and on the coast transient to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. In the afternoon, mainly in the southwest, they will blow temporarily to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will become a little rough to rough and in the late afternoon in the west rough. The temperature will rise to around 18 degrees inland, on the east, south and north coasts, around 17 on the rest of the coasts and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight the weather will be mostly cloudy with local rains and isolated thunderstorms, while locally mainly in the west and south, the phenomena are likely to be intense or prolonged. Hail is expected to fall in a storm, while sleet or even snow is expected to fall in the higher mountains. Winds will be mainly southwest to west, generally moderate, 4 Beaufort, while in the west, south and locally on the east coast up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort and temporarily very strong, 6 Beaufort. The sea in the north and east will become a little rough to rough and rough to wavy on the rest of the coast. The temperature will drop to around 9 degrees inland, around 10 on the east coast, around 12 on the rest of the coast and around 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Hail is likely to fall in a storm, while snow or sleet is expected to fall on the highest peaks of Troodos.
