The German frigate FGS Nordrhein-Westfalen (F223), which operates as part of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), docked in Limassol on Sunday morning.
The frigate replaced the also German Sachsen-Anhalt, which completed its six-month mission in the Mediterranean.
According to competent sources, the presence of the frigate, which has sailed many times to the port of Limassol in the recent past, is part of the strengthening of the naval force of the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force in the Eastern Mediterranean, protecting allies and the borders of the EU, amid tensions in the Middle East.
This is a modern Baden-Württemberg-class frigate (F125) of the German Navy, which replaced the frigate Sachsen-Anhalt, which was performing a six-month mission in the Mediterranean.
