PAPHOS CELEBRATES NATIONAL ANNIVERSARIES - Pafos Live 20/3
The Municipality of Paphos commemorates the National Anniversaries of March 25, 1821 and April 1, 1955, paying tribute to the struggles of Hellenism for Freedom.
TUESDAY 24 MARCH 2026
The events begin with the Pan-Municipal Festive Event at the Markideio Municipal Theater of Paphos, at 7.00 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Mr. Theodoros D. Gotsis, Historian – Diplomat and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This will be followed by an artistic program with the musical performance "200 years since the Exodus of Messolonghi", under the artistic direction of Kyriakos Kostas, in collaboration with the Choir of PASYDY. Paphos, under the direction of Dr. Stalo Georgiou. The performance, with live music and theatrical narration, is a dramatization of the poem "Free Besieged" by Dionysios Solomos.
WEDNESDAY 25 MARCH 2026 - GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY
On the day of the National Day, the events begin with the traditional doxology at the Cathedral of St. Theodore, officiated by His Grace Bishop Leontios of Chytra. The celebratory speech will be delivered by the Deputy Director of Secondary Education, Dr. Giorgos Koutsidis.
This will be followed by the laying of wreaths in the courtyard of the Holy Metropolis of Paphos and then the traditional parade on Georgiou Grivas Digeni Avenue, at 11.15 a.m., with the participation of students, organized groups, unions and departments of the National Guard. The parade will be greeted, on behalf of the Government, by the Minister of Health Neophytos Charalambidis.
WEDNESDAY 1 APRIL 2026 - EOKA DAY
Honouring the beginning of the Liberation Struggle of EOKA 1955-1959, the events begin with the solemn doxology at the Cathedral of St. Theodore, at 10.00 a.m. On behalf of the government, the government spokesman, Mr. Konstantinos Letympiotis, will attend and deliver the solemn speech.
A memorial service and laying of wreaths at the statue of the hero Evagoras Pallikaridis will follow. At 11.30 a.m. there will be an open reception at the Paphos Officers' Club (Georgiou Grivas Digeni Avenue), which is co-organized by the Holy Metropolis of Paphos, the National Guard, the Association of Reserve Officers of Paphos and the Municipality of Paphos.
The Municipality of Paphos invites all citizens to be present at the events, honouring the heroes of the Nation with their participation.
