NEW YELLOW WARNING FOR SEVERE STORMS AND HAIL – CYPRUS IN THE GRIP OF STRONG WINDS - Pafos Press 21/3

The Meteorology Department has issued a new yellow warning for severe storms that will affect the area.

Rainfall is expected to range between 35 and 50 millimeters, with hail possible.

The warning will be in effect from 10:00 in the morning until 17:00 in the afternoon.

A low pressure is affecting the area.

Today, intermittent local rain and isolated storms are expected, initially mainly on the coast and in the mountains, but gradually in the rest of the areas. Hail is also expected in the storm. On the highest peaks of Troodos, sleet or snow will fall. Winds will blow mainly southwest to west, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort and temporarily to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will be rough and temporarily to wavy. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees inland and on the coast around 6 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, intermittent local rains or even storms are expected, mainly on the coast and in the mountains. On the highest peaks of Troodos, sleet or snow will fall. Winds will blow mainly southwest to west, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and the sea will be rough. The temperature will drop to around 8 degrees inland, to 12 on the coast and around 2 degrees in the higher mountains where frost is expected to form locally.

On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, local rains and isolated storms are expected at intervals. In a storm, hail is likely to fall, while on the higher peaks of Troodos, snow or sleet is expected. The temperature is not expected to change significantly, fluctuating slightly below average climatic values.

The depth of snow in Chionistra at the time of publication of the bulletin was 21 centimeters.
