NEW DECREE ON FOOT AND MOUTH - WHAT IS CHANGING - Filenews 14/3

On 12 March 2026, a new Decree of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment was issued by the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus, pursuant to Article 7 of the Animal Health Laws of 2001 to 2023.

The new Decree includes additional provisions and prohibitions on the movement of materials and products, such as wool, hides and manure, provisions on the slaughter of animals from the affected zones and the shearing of straw-free animals and a new date on the process of harvesting, collecting, transporting, moving and silage feed.

The provisions and prohibitions relating to the movement of breeding animals, the grazing of breeding animals, the movement of feed and veterinary medicinal products, the grazing of breeding animals, visits to holdings or places where breeding animals are exposed to the public in affected zones shall remain in force.

It is noted that the competent Authority determines by decision the zones where the restrictive measures for foot-and-mouth disease apply.

Failure to comply with the provisions of the Decree constitutes a violation of the Animal Health Laws. In accordance with Article 13B of the Animal Health Law of 2001 (109(I)/2001), as amended from time to time, measures may be imposed, including the imposition of an administrative fine of up to €5,000.

The new Decree, 12 March 2026, replaces the previous Decree of 5 March 2026.
