NAVAL AND AIR BASE TO BE UPGRADED IN 2027 - Pafos Live 24/3
Within 2027, projects to upgrade the naval base in Mari and the air base in Paphos will begin, even without funding, the Minister of Defense announced. Asked about the impact of the conflicts in the Middle East region on the economy and especially on tourism, Vassilis Palmas replied that the safety of citizens is above all.
Presenting the projects of his ministry, he said that last year the terms of employment of the SYOPs were upgraded, the implementation of an armament program was promoted mainly with modern means, bilateral cooperation with Serbia, the United Arab Emirates and India was expanded and a decision was taken to upgrade the reserve.
He said that in March 2027, protective equipment purchased by Israel is expected to arrive on the island and that the Cypriot defense industry is being promoted.
Vassilis Palmas added that the lease agreement for four firefighting helicopters from Slovakia was signed, which will be able to operate from the first of April.
