MORE THAN 150 TANKERS DROP ANCHOR AS WAR FREEZES GULF ENERGY ROUTES - in-cyprus 2/3

At least 150 tankers, including vessels carrying crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), dropped anchor in the open waters of the Gulf on Sunday.

Shipping data shows the vessels are stalled beyond the Strait of Hormuz, with dozens more sitting stationary on the other side of the maritime chokepoint. The mass halt comes after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran plunged the region into a new war.

The tankers are currently clustered in open waters off the coasts of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Reuters estimates, based on ship-tracking data from the MarineTraffic platform, show that the cluster includes vessels from some of the world’s largest oil and gas producers.
