HEAVY RAINS AFFECT TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY - ONLY WITH 4x4 VEHICLES OR ANTI-SKID CHAINS IN TROODOS

HEAVY RAINS AFFECT TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY - ONLY WITH 4x4 VEHICLES OR ANTI-SKID CHAINS IN TROODOS - Filenews 25/3

Heavy rain that occurs around 2.00 pm in Limassol and Paphos, affects traffic on the road network. At the same time, snowfall in Troodos affects traffic in the higher mountains.

Due to the rains, there is a flow and accumulation of water in places on the Limassol-Paphos highway, especially at the height of the areas of Limassol, Pissouri and Kouklia, as well as on the Limassol bypass road, resulting in the road surface being slippery. Due to heavy rainfall, visibility for passing vehicle drivers is limited.

In Troodos, there is snowfall, as a result of which the road surface is slippery. Fog prevailing in the areas makes visibility limited for passing vehicle drivers.

The roads in the higher mountains, from Troodos Square to the top of Troodos, as well as the Prodromos-Troodos road, are open only to vehicles with four-wheel drive, or vehicles with anti-skid chains, due to the accumulation of snow that makes the road surface dangerously slippery.

The Police recommends special attention to passing drivers, who are asked to drive their vehicles at a safe, low speed, maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front and have their vehicle's headlights on.
