GREEK FORCES REMAIN IN CYPRUS FOR AS LONG AS NECESSARY - REPLACEMENT OF 'KIMON' AND 'PSARA' WITH NEW SHIPS NEXT WEEK - Filenews 25/3
The frigates "Kimon" and "Psara" are expected to be replaced in the coming days by other ships in the area of Cyprus.
The Greek authorities, however, decided to maintain their forces in the region after a reassessment of the situation in the Middle East. According to a report by Alpha Greece, Greek forces will remain in Cyprus for as long as the war in the Middle East lasts, and the continuation will depend on developments and conditions in the region.
Already, the four F-16s that had been transferred from Souda have been changed, with new aircraft from other squadrons and new pilots having already replaced the previous ones. It is also expected that, within the next week, the frigates "Kimon" and "Psara" will be replaced by other warships. As it is emphasized, Greece's intention to keep forces in the region is a given.
