CYPRIOTS PLAN EASTER HOLIDAYS IN THE WAR ZONE - STRICT MESSAGE FROM KOMBOS TO COMPLY WITH TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS - Filenews 27/3
The Minister of Foreign Affairs sent a stern message today to citizens who may be planning to travel for holidays to areas in the middle of conflicts in the Middle East.
Speaking to journalists, Konstantinos Kombos called on the public to follow the travel instructions and comply with them, since the regional crisis is extremely dangerous and unpredictable.
"The repatriation process was difficult," said the Minister, underlining that it cannot be repeated in the future, so everyone should follow the travel instructions.
Asked if there is any information about people who are trapped abroad again, Mr. Kombos replied that in view of the Easter holidays there is an increasing trend. Some appear to have booked vacations in areas at the center of the conflict. This causes concern that our compatriots will be trapped in the war zone again.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also said that the diplomatic involvement and coordination of the European Union is necessary, with Cyprus doing its part.
Cyprus, according to Mr. Kombos, emphasizes the humanitarian field. "We must not forget the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza," he stressed.
