CIVIL DEFENCE ON ALERT AND READINESS - 'IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE PEOPLE ARE PREPARED' - Filews 3/3

The Civil Defense Force is on alert, on alert, monitoring the situation and depending on the instructions it receives, it will respond, said the spokesman of the Force, Panagiotis Liasidis.

Asked how yesterday went, Mr. Liasidis said that members of the Civil Defense patrolled both Akrotiri and areas of Paphos, as well as their members took care of people who had to stay in various areas due to the evacuation.

Asked how long they will be in these areas, Mr. Liasidis said that they are waiting for instructions, adding that if and when the evacuation measures are in force, it is understood that the Civil Defense will remain in the area.

Answering a question whether the Civil Defense will continue, however, to be vigilant, Mr. Liasidis answered in the affirmative, saying that "all services are on alert, on alert, monitoring the situation and depending on the instructions they receive, they will respond".

"The important thing is to be calm. People must be calm, they are certainly affected, upset but it does not mean that we should lose our temper," he noted.

Remarking that self-protection instructions were issued earlier by the Ministry of the Interior and how important this is, Mr. Liasidis said that it is very important for people to be prepared, to take some preventive self-protection measures.

Prevention is very important and by people knowing what to do, the incidents that the services will also face are reduced, he said. "This means that we have more resilience as a society to deal with the effects of a disaster" and it is important for people to be informed in advance, to know in advance where their shelter is located and to identify areas of protection, if they do not have a shelter nearby.

Asked what happens to people who cannot be informed about their shelter through the SafeCy application and what happens to people who do not have a shelter in a nearby area or area, Mr. Liasidis said that they can call 22403451 or 22403452.

"It is the KEE, which operates 24 hours a day and can be informed by the Officers there," he said, while stating that in case they are in areas where there is no shelter nearby, they can locate a protection area, "which may be a basement, under stairs, so that they are not exposed to any danger that may exist".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Liasidis said that "there is cooperation with all services to help the citizens".
