AVAKAS GORGE - PATH REMAINS CLOSED DUE TO DANGEROUS CONDITIONS

AVAKAS GORGE - PATH REMAINS CLOSED DUE TO DANGEROUS CONDITIONS - Filenews 30/3

The "Avakas Gorge" trail remains closed, according to an announcement by the Department of Forests.

As reported, on the occasion of an incident on March 25 of travellers being trapped in the Avakas Gorge, "due to weather conditions, increased water flow, slippery terrain but also due to the risk of falling rocks and volumes of soil, the "Avakas Gorge", in the Akamas National Forest Park continues to remain closed until further notice".

A relevant announcement had been issued on the issue for the public to be informed, valid from December 6, 2025, until it was judged that the danger would have completely passed for visitors while at the same time relevant prohibitive markings had been placed at the entrance of the gorge.

The Department of Forests apologizes for any inconvenience to the public but the closure is deemed necessary for its own safety. It states that it will come back, with a new announcement when the gorge will be completely safe for visits.
