ALL TREATMENTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF GESY IN OUR MEDICAL PROFILE - SEE WHAT CHANGES

ALL TREATMENTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF GESY IN OUR MEDICAL PROFILE - SEE WHAT CHANGES - Filenews 3/3 Marilena Panayi

An important change that directly concerns the beneficiaries of the GHS comes into effect from February 25, 2026. The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) activates a new function in the system, enabling the registration of medical information for services provided abroad or in Cyprus by providers outside the GHS.

Simply put: If a patient needed treatment outside the system, either in a hospital abroad or in Cyprus outside the GHS, this information will now be able to be officially recorded in his medical profile.

This new regulation is characterized by the HIO itself as particularly important, as until today, there was inevitably a gap in the data of the beneficiaries of the GHS in their electrical profile.

Now, the attending physician will have a complete picture of the medical history and at the same time continuity in care will be ensured, repeated examinations or incomplete information will be avoided and the patient's safety will be enhanced.

The new section in the GHS software, entitled "Services abroad or outside the GHS in Cyprus", is integrated into the medical profile and is available to personal and specialist doctors.

The doctor will be able to choose whether the service was provided abroad or outside the GHS, enter the date of provision (even retroactively), select the provider from a list or add a new one if there is none, fill in a description of up to 2,000 characters with a summary or instructions and mandatorily upload a relevant document (e.g. discharge or medical report).

It is noted that for services abroad, the date must be from October 2, 2025 onwards, when the HIO officially assumed the responsibility of sending beneficiaries abroad.

The new section will also be visible through the Beneficiary Portal, so that the patient knows what has been registered. However, registration remains the sole responsibility of doctors.  At the same time, each doctor will only be able to delete his own entries, maintaining responsibility and accuracy of the data.
