A FLURRY OF CYBER ATTACKS RECENTLY - DEPUTY MINISTRY OF INNOVATION DENIES REPORTS OF DATA INTERCEPTION BY MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND RANSOM DEMANDS - Filenews 28/3

There is no indication of a breach of government systems and there is no ransom demand, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy emphasizes in a statement, stating at the same time that it is a fact that an increased number of cyberattacks involving the public and private sectors has been recorded recently.

The Deputy Ministry states that "in relation to today's publication of the newspaper "Politis", which concerns allegations of interception of databases by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and requests for ransom payments by state services, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy clarifies that these reports are not substantiated, there is no indication of a violation of government systems and there is no demand for a ransom".

"It is a fact that recently there has been an increased number of cyberattacks, i.e. attempts to breach websites and information systems, involving both the public and private sectors. This phenomenon is observed not only in Cyprus but also more broadly at the European level," he notes.

The Deputy Ministry emphasizes that in cooperation with the Digital Security Authority (DSA) and all relevant state services, it remains constantly vigilant and closely and continuously monitors the data and developments.

"The issue of Cyberattacks is a sensitive issue that cannot be the subject of news that is not verified," he emphasizes.

Finally, it calls on "all bodies, before showing such news, to contact the Deputy Ministry for data verification".
