UNSTABLE WEATHER WITH RAIN, STORMS, STRONG WINDS AND SNOW IN TROODOS - DUST RETURNS

 Filenews 10 February 2026

Weak low pressure prevails in the area, while successive disturbances will affect the island from time to time until Friday. From Thursday, dust transport is favoured in the atmosphere.

Today the weather will initially be partly cloudy and locally mostly cloudy, with the possibility of isolated rains, mainly in western areas. Gradually, however, the phenomena will expand and locally rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with the possibility of small hail in a storm. On the highest peaks of Troodos, it is possible that sleet will fall. Winds will blow southwest to west, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, although locally in the morning they will be light, 3 Beaufort. In the afternoon, in windward coastal areas they will blow temporarily to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough to rough. The temperature will rise to around 19 degrees inland and on the northern coasts, around 20 on the southeast and east coasts, around 18 on the rest of the coasts and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight the weather will be, in the western half of the island, temporarily mostly cloudy with isolated rains, without ruling out a storm especially on the coast, while in the rest of the areas there will be intervals of mostly clear weather. Snow or sleet is likely to fall on the highest peaks of Troodos. Winds will be mainly southwest to northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient in windward areas to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will remain a little rough to rough, but locally in the west and north it will be rough. The temperature will drop to around 9 degrees inland, around 13 on the west coast, around 11 on the rest of the coast and around 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost may form locally.

On Wednesday and Thursday the weather will be temporarily mostly cloudy and local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected from time to time. On Friday, there will be rain and local thunderstorms, with a gradual expansion in all areas. On the highest peaks of Troodos, during the three days, it is possible that snow or sleet will fall.

The temperature will remain at approximately the same levels, to continue to fluctuate slightly above the average climatic values.
