THE WEST LAND OF CYPRUS - WEST PAPHOS PROMOTES A SINGLE BRAND - Filenews 26/2

The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous and the Municipality of Akamas are jointly designing a modern and innovative tourism product for western Cyprus. The wider area is under study as a single tourist unit, under the name "The West Land of Cyprus".

In this context, the first meeting with the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodimos Damianos, was held at the end of January, during which the vision for the creation of a digital tourism ecosystem that will utilize modern technologies and artificial intelligence applications, with the aim of improving and upgrading the visitor experience in the area, was presented.

The meeting was attended by the Mayors of Akamas and Polis, Marinos Lambrou and Yiotis Papachristofi, and the Presidents of the Tourism Committees of the two municipal authorities, Xenios Xenophontos and Chrysanthos Pafitis.

During the meeting, it was clarified that this initiative does not concern the creation of a simple website or promotion application, but aims to form an integrated digital ecosystem, which will be able to evolve, utilize data, integrate innovative technologies and offer smart, personalized experiences to visitors.

The Deputy Minister of Innovation and Research expressed a positive response to the initiative and pledged to technically support the effort, through the provision of a specialized technical consultant, so that the project can be developed with proper technological architecture and a modern innovative approach.

At the same time, the project will be implemented in conjunction with a presentation and actions implemented by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, ensuring the connection of technological innovation with the overall national tourism strategy.

The initiative of the Municipalities of Polis Chrysochous and Akamas aspires to create a model model of smart tourism, which will strengthen cooperation between local government, businesses and visitors and will be able to be a guide for similar applications in other areas of Cyprus.
