Pafos Live 10 February 2026
The Animal Action Group of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation expresses its deep concern and indignation in relation to two recent and particularly serious incidents of disappearance of animals, which were under human care:
• the disappearance of cats from a supermarket in Nicosia on January 22, 2026,
• and the disappearance of a dog from the Kofinou area of the Larnaca District on January 25, 2026, which left behind her two newborn puppies.
To date, February 9, 2026, there has been no substantial development in the detection of the animals, despite the fact that complaints have been submitted to the competent authorities and important information has been provided by citizens.
At the same time, we are receiving a wealth of information that shows that the extinction of animals continues on a daily basis, which intensifies concern and raises reasonable questions about the effectiveness of protection and control mechanisms.
The prolonged absence of results, even in cases that have already been reported, as well as the lack of clear and responsible information, lead citizens to the worst thoughts about the fate of animals and seriously damage the sense of justice and trust in the competent authorities.
The Animal Action Group calls on the competent authorities to immediately and effectively assume their responsibilities, to investigate the complaints in depth, to proceed with the identification of the animals and those responsible and to ensure the full implementation of the legislation on the protection and welfare of animals, without further delay.
