THE INSTITUTION OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE OFFICER IS STRENGTHENED BY 50% - 17 MEMBERS WILL BE PLACED IN VARIOUS AREAS OF CYPRUS - Filenews 28/2
With an additional 17 members of the Police, the institution of Community Policing is strengthened.
In the context of the modernization of the Police and with the aim of further strengthening the institution of Community Policing, 17 members are included as of today, in the institution of the Neighbourhood Police Officer and will be placed in various areas of Cyprus.
With the new additions, the number of Neighbourhood Police Officers rises to 51, increasing the existing number by 50%.
The institution of the "Neighbourhood Policeman" is a successful crime prevention strategy, which has been implemented in Cyprus since 2003. It is one of the institutions that make up the network of "Community Policing", along with "Bicycle Policing", "Animal Police" and "Neighbourhood Watch". Its aim is to maintain security in society, through the cultivation of two-way communication with citizens and the development of a relationship of mutual cooperation and trust between the Police and citizens.
The appointment of additional members of the Police is the first step towards further strengthening the institution of Community Policing, in the context of the modernization of the Cyprus Police.
