THE CHILDREN'S A&E MOVES TO MAKARIOS HOSPITAL - PAPHOS TO ACQUIRE AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - Filenews 27/2 - by Marilena Panayi

In March 2027, it is expected that the Children's Accident and Emergency Department, which until now operates at the Nicosia General Hospital, will be transferred to Makarios Hospital.

As the executive director of the State Health Services Organization, Kypros Stavrides, told the parliamentary committee on Health, in response to questions from MPs, the works currently in progress will be completed, based on the contract with the contractor, at the end of 2026. "We will let the hospital operate for a while and then start making the various moves. I estimate that around March 2027, the children's A&E will be transferred there."

The executive director of OKYPY also informed the Committee about the inclusion in the budget of the Organization of positions related to the appointment of an executive director in the province of Paphos but also three positions for operational directors, so that there is also a directorate in the province of Famagusta which operates under the region of Larnaca. (To date, the structures of OKYPY in the Paphos district operate under the executive director based in Limassol).

Mr. Stavridis also referred to the award of the tender for the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Makarios Hospital, saying that the signing of the contracts with the new contractor is expected within the next two weeks, while the works are expected to start within the next two months.

The new unit, "as we had mentioned to you in our previous meeting", said Mr. Stavridis addressing the MPs, "we estimate that it will be ready by the end of July 2027".

The total cost is estimated to amount to approximately €10 million, an amount that has already been incorporated into the budget of OKYPY.
