STUDENTS - EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOPS ON SKILLS IN TRAFFIC EDUCATION

Filenews 13 February 2026 - by Evangelia Sizopoulou

In a different and original way, students will acquire skills around traffic education: With experiential workshops and interactive exercises using a simulator, while at the same time they will enter all the roles of road users, in order to understand behaviours and emotions.

This will be implemented through the cooperation of the Health Education Inspection Office of the Ministry of Education with Frederick University, Nicosia and the Traffic Department of the Headquarters.

Specifically, in the context of the course of Health Education and in particular the thematic unit of Traffic Education, the students of the third grade of Gymnasium will be trained in the above at the premises of Frederick University.

Through this program, students will acquire skills and recognize emotions that may affect the behaviour of road users, regardless of role (driver, pedestrian, cyclist, motorcyclist, passenger).

The program aims to:

>> The recognition of emotions that affect the behaviour of road users.

>> The recognition and acquisition of skills that contribute to safe movement on the road network.

>> The recognition of errors in relation to the emotional state of individuals and its correlation with the use of the road network.

>> The cultivation of correct and safe behaviour during traffic on the road network.

As for the implementation of the program, it will be during the second semester of the current school year and the duration of the students' visit will be about 11/2 – 2 hours. Students will drive in the simulator, following specific road behaviour instructions, while at the same time a discussion is developed around safe transportation. Also, a laboratory exercise is carried out with a laboratory officer and a competent road safety police officer, with an emphasis on proper behaviour both in the school environment and as road users.

The expected results are:

>> To strengthen students' self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as to promote values such as respect for human life and acceptance of diversity.

>> The recognition of equality in the right to life and security of all citizens.

>> The development of the ability to recognize emotions that influence the behaviour of road users.
