The Municipality of Larnaca recently announced the successful completion of the architectural competition and the results of the evaluation of 22 proposals by a jury, which awarded the first prize to a team of five architects consisting of Haris Aristodimou, Konstantinos Kelpis, Marios Kyriakou, Louis Loizou and Yiotis Tsangaris.
The next stage is the process of securing the required permits, in order to announce a tender for the construction works, which are expected to start within the next year.
The project has a preliminary estimate of €2.6 million. and its contracting authority is the Municipality of Larnaca.
The trademark of the project will be the Environmental Information Center which, together with its surrounding area, will have a development area of approximately 15,000 sq.m.
Its aim will be to promote the ecological and environmental character of the area, while it is also planned to carry out educational programs for groups of visitors.
At the same time, exhibits related to the ecological/environmental and cultural elements (such as the Kamares aqueduct) of the protected area will be displayed.
The building will include, among other things, a shop and ticket office, a screening and lecture hall, an environmental education room, an exhibit room, as well as a cafeteria with outdoor dining.
On the basis of strict environmental conditions, as stated in the terms of the architectural competition, the rest of the space will be formed.
