DUAL BRITISH-CYPRIOT NATIONALS MUST USE BRITISH PASSPORT TO ENTER UK FROM TODAY - in-cyprus 25/2
Dual British-Cypriot passport holders must now use a valid British passport to enter the United Kingdom, or carry a Certificate of Entitlement in another passport, the Cyprus High Commission in London has announced.
The requirement took effect on 25 February 2026, according to a notice by the Cyprus High Commission in London.
The UK government allows dual citizenship, meaning Cypriot nationals who also hold British citizenship do not need to choose between the two. However, when travelling to the UK, dual nationals must present either a valid UK or Irish passport, or a valid passport of another nationality accompanied by a certificate of entitlement.
There is one limited exception: carriers such as airlines may allow travel on an expired UK passport — issued in 1989 or later — provided the traveller also holds a valid passport for a nationality eligible for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA). The personal details on both passports must match, and the decision rests with the carrier. Dual British-Cypriot nationals are not eligible for an ETA.
The UK Foreign Office notes that dual nationals cannot receive diplomatic assistance from the British government when in the country of their other nationality.
