CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Live 7 February 2026

As part of the actions taken by YKAN to identify and arrest members of criminal groups that systematically engage in drug trafficking, a 22-year-old person was arrested and detained yesterday.

Specifically, around 7 p.m. yesterday, after evaluating information, members of YKAN located and signalled a car driven by a 23-year-old, in the area of Larnaca, to stop for a check. In the same area, near the vehicle in question, the 22-year-old was on foot, who, at the sight of the Police, fled. The 23-year-old also fled the area in his car after first colliding with the official vehicle.

The vehicle driven by the 23-year-old was then located. In the attempt of the members of the Police to stop him for a check, the 23-year-old managed to escape again, after repeatedly colliding with official vehicles.

In a search carried out in the area, a nylon package containing about a kilogram of cannabis was located and confiscated.

A little later, he was located on a street in Larnaca and the 22-year-old was arrested, after a precision scale with traces of cannabis was found in his possession. A search of his vehicle followed, where about 10 grams of cannabis were found and confiscated.

From the road collisions that preceded, two members of YKAN were injured (a male police officer suffered a double fracture in the arm and a female police officer suffered a neck injury and bruises on the hand), while extensive damage was caused to two official vehicles.

Testimonies of kidnappings and beatings of persons, secured by the Larnaca Police Department, brought new data to the cases of organized crime in Larnaca, the action of which began to unfold after the unprecedented case of the fight and shooting on the afternoon of January 17, 100 meters from the city's Police Headquarters.

The two arrested are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court tomorrow for the issuance of detention orders.

Update - The details of the torture of 7 people, which, according to the Police, are related to the action of a specific organized crime group in Larnaca, are shocking. For these cases, the 48-year-old with Cypriot citizenship, who is on trial for the case of the January 17 shootings, and a 27-year-old of Arab origin are in custody, while another person who is also allegedly involved in the Larnaca incident is wanted.

As it was said before the Famagusta court, to which the suspects were taken under draconian measures, on January 18, as part of the investigation of the case with the shootings in Larnaca, the 48-year-old was arrested and 2 of his mobile phones were taken in which a large number of videos and photos were found, which record people being in an office and being brutally tortured. This is a room located on the first floor of a casino in Pyla, which seems to be connected to the 48-year-old.

In the videos, according to what was said before the court, seven people can be seen being in the area against their will. The 1st suspect (48-year-old) together with another wanted person, allegedly hit these persons with their hands and other objects, causing them bodily harm. In these videos, the 1st suspect, according to what was said in court, appears to be holding a pistol and putting it on two different occasions in the mouth of a person who was being held against his will. The torture allegedly took place on various dates in 2025.

In the 58-second video, the first victim can be seen sitting on a sofa and suffering blows to the head and one eye is swollen. The 48-year-old allegedly asked him if he burned his car and then punched him in the head, insulted him and spit on him. At some point, as stated in the detention order, the victim's shorts appear wet, as he seems to have urinated during his torture. In another video, the same victim appears to be hit on the head by a knife blade held by the 48-year-old, while at the same time, he is brutally tortured, in ways that cause shock. At some point, in fact, the 1st suspect allegedly says to burn the victim's genitals, while at the same time hitting him with his knee in the ribs.

In a second video, the second victim, who is a foreigner, was allegedly hit by the 48-year-old with a metal object. In the same video, the 2nd suspect (27-year-old) appears, who allegedly asks him if he will give the money and hits him in the face. The victim, as stated in the court order, was crying loudly and fell under the chair.

In a third video, the third victim, who has not been identified, can be seen sitting on a sofa and a 48-year-old man putting a pistol in his mouth, with him in a state of shock. Then the victim, as can be seen in the video, also seems to receive blows.

In a fourth video, moreover, the fourth victim appears to have the 1st suspect on top of him who was holding a knife and a sharpening tool. Then the 48-year-old allegedly starts sharpening the knife and asking when he will pay off what the victim owes him and he answers that he will do it in two weeks. Subsequently, the 1st suspect allegedly punched him in the face, threatening to stab him with the knife. He then stabs him with the blade of the knife in his left hand. Following the previous video, another video again shows the 4th victim sitting on the sofa, while blood is flowing from his nose, which he tries to stop with a handkerchief. Subsequently, he allegedly received blows from the wanted person, with the victim begging him to stop.

In a fifth video, the 5th victim can be seen, on the sofa, wearing a short shirt on top, on which there seem to be blood-like stains and some faces shouting something in Arabic, with his pants and underwear down. The wanted man allegedly hit him with a belt, while the victim's lips were bleeding.

In 16 videos, the 6th victim is depicted in the specific room/office where the sofa is located. He appears battered on the face, since blood flows from his lips and face. In these videos, the voice of the 1st suspect is recognized, who seems to be "interrogating" the victim about various security issues, since he thought he was watching his house, on the instructions of another person, with the intention of harming him. At one point, the victim can be seen on the sofa holding his head with both hands and the 1st suspect shouting at him and asking who put him to kill him. In this video, the wanted man also appears, as well as two other people who throw him off the sofa and beat him with their feet. The 6th victim has been identified, however, so far has not been located.

In another video, the 7th victim can be seen sitting on the specific sofa and the 1st suspect, holding a pistol, gold and a knife, persistently asks him for money. The 1st suspect then slaps him in the face and then spits on him. The 1st suspect continues to hit him in the face with his hands and then a second person, who is not distinguishable, kicks him in the face. So far the 7th victim has not been able to be identified.

The 48-year-old defendant and the 27-year-old were remanded in custody for 8 days by the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni. The two are suspected of 14 very serious offenses, which include, among other things, conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession and transport of a firearm, kidnapping, torture, causing grievous bodily harm, carrying a weapon to incite terror and carrying a knife.

It is noted that the 48-year-old did not object to his detention, however, he claimed before the court that there was an attempted murder against him. "For those who attempted murder against me, did you do anything? They speak names. You know who he is. Did you do anything? And now you are coming and bringing videos?", he said, naming a person who claimed to be behind the alleged assassination attempt.

The investigator of the case replied that investigative statements will be taken from the suspect and that there he will be able to say whatever he wants.

Another fight between young men outside a nightclub a few days ago, or rather nights, stirred up the neighbourhood around 3am after there were injuries and the Police and an ambulance were called to the place to transport the injured to the hospital. Of course, it is not the first incident of this type and the residents of the area have.  They are now used to waking up in the middle of the night from such fights that break out most of the time "for the eyes of a woman".

It was reported that in this case too, two groups of men and women were previously having fun in the area among other patrons, so one of the one group said something "annoying" to a woman from the other group.

Her friend rushed to take the floor and it didn't take long for the men of the two teams to start fighting.  First inside the club and then outside it, on the street. I don't know if this fierce clash had other motives than what became known and whether there were previous differences and old confrontations between the parties involved, beyond "the eyes of the young woman". Because it is disappointing to think that among the new generation of the country old complexes and jungle stereotypes survive with the roles of the woman as a weak and passive prey and the man as a hot hunter, ready to strike and even kill anyone else who thinks he has claimed it.

Isn't that amazing? Ever since the Trojan War took place "for the eyes" of Helen, men have not stopped invoking "Helen" to embellish their need to humiliate and annihilate other men in search of living space, power and wealth. For "Eleni" they supposedly did it and in the end they put the blame on "Eleni". That "she" caused the evil.

But, if in Homer's time and in later times "Helen" was silent and tolerated without protest that others speak on her behalf without asking her and without caring about anything she thinks and wants, why does she continue to be silent and inactive today? At least in cases like the one described in the text?

Today, when "Eleni" – yes, even in Cyprus – claims and has equality, it is time for her to take responsibility for equality, that is, for her freedom to manage something so... as personal as herself. And not to tolerate it being done beyond its own will, the trophy in the window with the medals - the manhood of every poor man.

The transfer of a prisoner to the Larnaca General Hospital was episodic, as the 27-year-old reacted after the tests he underwent by refusing to handcuff and injured a police officer.

As our website is informed, the 27-year-old was transported accompanied by police officers from the Menogeia migrant detention center to the hospital.

When the tests were completed, a police officer tried to handcuff him again, but the 27-year-old reacted and hit him.

The police officer was found to have a head injury and after being examined he was discharged.

The 27-year-old was taken back to his detention area.

The case is being examined by the Larnaca Minor Offenses Department.
