CREATION OF ORGANIC WASTE MANAGEMENT UNIT IN THE PROVINCE OF PAFOS
The Mayor of Pafos, Mr. Angelos Onisiforou, had a meeting on Saturday, 14/02/2026, at the Pafos City Hall, with the professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the National Metsovio Polytechnic, Mrs. Maria Loizidou, with the main topic of the creation of an Organic Waste Management Unit for the Province of Pafos. The project is at the sustainability study stage, within the framework of the LIFE – IP CYzero Waste program, which is being implemented by the Cyprus Department of Environment in cooperation with the National Metsovio Polytechnic.
The proposed Unit, capable of managing up to 24,000 tonnes annually, with an estimated cost in excess of €15,000,000, is expected to contribute significantly to reducing organic waste that ends up in landfill sites and achieving national and European circular economy goals.
