Winter air traffic at Larnaca and Paphos airports has increased by 16% this year, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year (November-January), according to statements by a Hermes Airports executive to KYPE.
According to Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communication at Hermes Airports, Cyprus' air traffic and connectivity continue to move upwards in the winter season, as a result of coordinated actions by the tourism industry and agreements with key airlines that enhance year-round connectivity.
The 16% increase concerns the comparison of the period November 2025 – January 2026 with the corresponding period November 2024 – January 2025, confirming the dynamics that are developing outside the traditional tourism peak.
Enhanced flight network to Larnaca and Paphos
During the winter season, 30 airlines operate at Larnaca Airport, with flights to 54 destinations in 33 countries. Four new markets were added to the network – Spain, Belgium, Slovakia and North Macedonia – as well as 10 new destinations for the first time in winter.
At Paphos Airport, flights are operated by 8 airlines to 35 destinations in 17 countries, while the Paphos-Amman route has been restored and the new destinations Düsseldorf and Haifa have been added.
Geopolitical factors and resilience
Regarding developments in the Middle East, Ms. Kouroupi noted that tourism is naturally sensitive to geopolitical tensions, however at this stage there is no impact on air traffic to Cyprus. Potential turbulence may temporarily affect flight plans, leading to route changes or even refuelling stops in Cyprus.
At the same time, he stressed that in times of crisis, Cypriot airports have acted as "bridges of peace", serving repatriation flights and emergencies.
Investment of €170 million for the expansion of airports
The Phase B development projects of Larnaca and Paphos airports are in progress, with a total investment of €170 million, which is fully financed by Hermes Airports. In Larnaca, the projects include a new wing, additional gates, luggage belts and an expansion of the shopping area, while in Paphos the terminal capacity will be increased by 30%.
Hermes Airports emphasizes that the main priority remains the smooth operation of the airports throughout the duration of the projects, which are implemented in a fully active operational environment.
