THEY WANT 20 NEW HOTELS IN LARNACA

 Filenews 20 January 2026

The President of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NLG) Dr. Nakis Antoniou.

In his statements, Dr. Antoniou expressed the belief that "the fact that Larnaca won the title of European Capital of Culture for 2030 will also help in increasing the attraction of tourists. The prospects of tourism for the city are very positive, which is reinforced by the approximately 20 applications that exist for the construction of small hotel units, i.e. boutique hotels in Larnaca."

Answering a relevant question, Dr. Antoniou said that "among the applications for the creation of small hotel units in Larnaca are existing buildings as well as for new tourist accommodation. Boutique hotels do not have everything that a large hotel with hundreds of rooms has, so tourists who stay in them go out and visit the restaurants, cafes and everything that Larnaca has to offer in its picturesque neighbourhoods and beyond."

It is certain, he continued, that "the investors for the construction of the small hotel units have done their own research and have realized that Larnaca has great prospects in terms of tourism. The removal of the oil tanks that existed for decades on the coastal front of Larnaca also helped the positive prospect of tourism for the city."

Asked about the issue of the development of the Larnaca marina, Dr. Antoniou noted that "around the end of January we will have a meeting with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works who will inform us about the latest developments. In particular, we expect information on the pilot study for the development of the port and marina of Larnaca undertaken by the Public Investment Fund of Greece, with which the government signed an agreement last May."

At the same time, he noted "we expect from the Legal Service of the Republic its own opinion on the request of businessman Panos Alexandrou, CEO of the company Prosperity Group CY Ltd, to undertake the development of the port and marina of Larnaca, on the basis of the existing contract of the Kition Ocean Holdings Consortium".

As the President of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry explained, "about a year ago, the company Prosperity Group CY Ltd, which owns 20% of the Kition Ocean Holdings Consortium, submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works to undertake the unified development of the port and marina of the city".

In his statements, Dr. Antoniou also referred to the completion within the year of Phase C of the Larnaca - Dhekelia coastal road, which, as he said, "will give another perspective to the city for development. The completion of this road network will help make it easier for local and foreign visitors to access and increase the tourist flow to Larnaca," he said.

We are, concluded the President of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry, "optimistic about the future of the city, since we see an increase in the tourist flow while at the same time there is a great demand for investments".
