The Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS) has published the Standardization Work Program of the National Technical Committees for 2026, as it results from the annual Operational Plan. The program reflects the key priorities of standardization in critical sectors of the economy, industry, energy, environment and sustainable development.
The central axis of the work for 2026 is the implementation of the new European Regulation CPR 2024/3110 for construction products, the revision of national and European standards, as well as the promotion of the circular economy and climate neutrality.
Construction products and structures
Several technical committees, including CYS/TC 01 (Structural Lime), CYS/TC 02 (Aggregates), CYS/TC 17 (Bituminous Concrete) and CYS/TC 20 (Curtain walls and metal coatings), are expected to be active if necessary, focusing on issues stemming from CPR 2024/3110.
Particular emphasis is placed on the National Committee CYS/TC 06 – Concrete, which will examine the update of the national supplementary standard CYS 300:2019 to align it with the new version of EN 206-1, as well as the possible development of a national appendix for EN 13670 (Execution of concrete structures).
At the same time, CYS/TC 14 – Prefabricated Concrete Materials will proceed with the public evaluation and final approval process of the EN 1916:2002 standard.
Plastics, circular economy and drinking water
The National Committee CYS/TC 08 – Plastics prioritizes drinking water, with the aim of regulating the suitability of materials in contact with water for human consumption, in view of the implementation of the new European hygiene requirements from 31/12/2026.
In the same context, the revision evaluation of the CYS 106:2010 standard for LDPE pipes, in combination with the technical specification CYS/TS 600 for circular plastic products, is planned.
CYS/TC 26 – Circular Plastic Products will be reconstituted, with the aim of creating a certification scheme and monitoring international developments in the circular economy.
Energy, hydrocarbons and climate
In the energy sector, CYS/TC 13 – Thermal Solar Systems will continue the representation of Cyprus in European technical bodies, while supporting the Energy Applications Laboratory for the testing of solar panels.
CYS/TC 22 – Hydrocarbons will focus on supporting investment decisions for the exploitation of deposits in the EEZ, as well as on participation in educational programs and international conferences.
The action of the CYS/TC 27 – Climate Neutrality and CYS/TC 29 – Climate Neutral Communities committees is also important, with the aim of developing new national technical specifications and promoting policies for sustainable and resilient communities.
Eurocodes, cultural heritage and other committees
CYS/TC 18 – Eurocodes will continue the work on the 2nd generation of Eurocodes and the preparation of a National Seismic Hazard Map. On the contrary, several committees, such as CYS/TC 04 (Clay Masonry Elements), CYS/TC 15 (Reinforcement Steels) and CYS/TC 24 (Gender Equality in the Working Environment) remain inactive or are being considered for abolition.
