SUPERMARKETS AND SHOPS OPEN SATURDAY DESPITE PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Supermarkets will remain open on Saturday, January 17, the day of the funeral of the former President of the Republic, George Vassiliou, as Andreas Hatziadamou, Executive Secretary of the Pancyprian Association of Supermarkets, told KYPE.

As he mentioned, although the day has been declared a public holiday by decision of the Council of Ministersthe private sector will operate normally, including supermarkets.

''There is no differentiation," he noted, clarifying that the employees will work normally, as is the case every Saturday. At the same time, he stressed that the existing legislation governing work on Saturdays and Sundays will be implemented, without special regulations due to the holiday.

Retail stores will remain open tomorrow, Saturday, January 17, the day of the funeral of the former President of the Republic, Giorgos Vassiliou, POVEK General Secretary Stefanos Koursaris told KYPE.

As he said, in response to a question from KYPE, "the private sector is not affected according to the Code of Labour Relations". So, he added, "the shops will remain open everywhere".

It should be noted that the Council of Ministers has set tomorrow, on which the funeral of the former President of the Republic will be held, as a public holiday.
