STUDENTS IN THE ROLE OF DETECTIVES - INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF THE DEATH OF A VULTURE

Filenews 28 January 2026

Crimes against wildlife have the opportunity to... be solved by the students of Secondary Education.

According to a post by BirdLife Cyprus, in the new educational program offered by the Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Education and specifically by the Akrotiri Community Environmental Education Center, students take on the role of environmental crime investigators and are transported to the place where a Vulture was found dead.

As reported, with the Griffon Vulture on the brink of extinction and every individual being valuable to the survival of the species, students are called upon to take an active role, investigating the causes and circumstances that led to its death.

The educational program entitled "On the brink of extinction – vultures in Cyprus" was developed in the framework of the Darwin Local Plus project "Saving the Griffon Vulture from extinction in SBAs and Cyprus", by the Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development (KPE Akrotiri Community) in collaboration with BirdLife Cyprus.

The educational program promotes cooperation, observation, critical thinking while students learn about the endangered Griffon Vulture and the importance of its protection through an interactive way.
