G.S. Koroivos, the old stadium of the city, has also been on the agenda of factors and institutions in recent months for its upgrade and modernization, being part of the reciprocal agenda of the CSO for the upgrade of the sports infrastructure of Paphos, mainly after the promotion of the concession of the main stadium of the city, Stelios Kyriakides, to an investor for the needs of Paphos FC.
The processes that are being carried out and the announcements that have been made public concern the transformation of the historic sports venue in the city center into a hive of sports activity of the local community and not a carcass of past eras as it has been in recent years.
Entering 2026, the competent agents of the province are calling for the rapid implementation of the declarations and not any more nebulous schedules, given that the restoration of the old stadium to daily use has now been on the city's agenda for several years.
Sports and social bodies of the city and province of Paphos consent to the transformation of the space into a hive of activities that will be open to the local community, instead of only the school to which it belongs spatially. These bodies emphasize that Paphos is one of the provinces that lags behind in sports infrastructure, since there is only one indoor sports hall with basic modern infrastructure, there are no tennis courts, while there is a football field that will essentially not be accessible to people who would like to play sports.
G.S. Koroivos, in the center of the city and right opposite the Paphos Municipal Hall, for decades was synonymous with football in Paphos through Evagoras and APOP and with the right planning, local bodies claim, it can be the Municipal Sports Center of Paphos. Tennis courts, basketball courts, a football field that can be converted into small football fields can be created, a track for classical sports and a small café for recreation can be created around the perimeter, they argue.
All this can be made possible without the Municipality and the state wasting a lot of money, they point out, while in addition the G.S. Koroivos has the advantage of being located in the city center, so it can be used not only by schools as before, but also by a large number of people, as a result of which the center of Paphos regains its old social life and is full of activity on a daily basis.
