SHOCK AT LARNACA GENERAL HOSPITAL - COMPLAINT ABOUT A 42-YEAR OLD WOMAN IN A COMA FOUND LYING ON THE FLOOR IN THE TOILETS

 Filenews 23 January 2026

The State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) has begun investigating a complaint about a serious incident that occurred at the Larnaca General Hospital, following a complaint about a 42-year-old woman who ended up being hospitalized in a comatose state due to her inadequate care after a surgical condition she had undergone.

According to the complaint, the woman was hospitalized after undergoing hysterectomy surgery on January 16.

As reported, her postoperative condition was initially assessed as good, without any worrying findings.

However, and as her family claims in a letter to the Larnaca General Hospital published by "Alpha", two days later, on January 18, the 42-year-old's family was suddenly informed that the woman had suffered a serious stroke and had fallen into a comatose state, which was characterized by the treating doctors as irreversible.

According to her medical file, at 06:20 in the early hours of the same day, the 42-year-old was found lying on the floor of the hospital toiletface down, half-naked and wet. This finding contradicts initial information that, according to the family, had been given to them and spoke of falling out of bed.

It is also reported that the woman had expressed severe dizziness and had asked that the catheter not be removed, as she did not feel able to move safely. On Saturday night, she had contacted her relatives, stating that she repeatedly pressed the bell to ask for help in order to go to the toilet, but received no response.

It is estimated that, under these circumstances, she tried to get up on her own, as a result of which she fell and was injured. According to the family, there was a second fall, in the early hours of Sunday, after which the woman no longer responded to phone calls or messages.

The family of the 42-year-old asks for a full and in-depth investigation of the case, while declaring that they are determined to proceed with a complaint to the Police. The incident is under the knowledge of both OKYPY and the competent state authorities and is already under investigation by OKYPY.
