Filenews 21 January 2026 - by Evangelia Sizopoulou

More than 200 laboratories of the courses of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Design and Technology are in the plan of the Ministry of Education for upgrading and modernization.

These are workshops in 62 Gymnasiums, 36 Lyceums and ten Six-Grade Schools.

This development is one of the various actions of the Directorate of Secondary General Education of the competent Ministry, which are part of Objective 239c of Reform C5.1R1 of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), with a budget of €1,500,000.

The modernization of school infrastructure is a key pillar of the reform, therefore the upgrading of school laboratories is a particularly important area.

According to the Deputy Director of Secondary General Education, Giorgos Koutsidis, the equipment that will be made available to schools includes 3D printing printers (3D Printer), systems for engraving and cutting materials with the help of a laser beam (Laser Engraver and Cutter), Gas Extractors (Fume Cupboard), UV-VIS Spectroscopy systems, experimental devices with the possibility of making measurements through wireless sensors and which include Enzyme Activity (Enzyme Activity Experiment), Plant Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Experiment, Conductometric and pH Titration measurements of Hydrochloric Acid solutions, equipment for conducting Physics experiments in the field of Engineering for Straight Smooth Motion and Rectilinear Respiration Smoothly Changing Motion, Newton's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Law, Study of Impacts and other applications of the Principle of Conservation of Momentum, Theorem of Change of Kinetic Energy – Project, Theorem of Conservation of Mechanical Energy and Study of Centripetal Force, as well as smartphone-based VR-Classes and augmented reality T-shirts.

As it has been pointed out to us, "the upgrading of school laboratories is done with cutting-edge technology, similar to what students will encounter, both in their later academic careers and in tomorrow's job market".

Therefore, the Ministry of Education notes that this action strengthens the connection between education and the labour market, offering students access to modern equipment and practical experience, while at the same time, cultivating high-demand skills by preparing young people for their studies and professional future.
