RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE PUBLIC ON DUST

High concentrations of dust are also observed today, Wednesday, in the atmosphere according to the measurements of the ground Stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labour Inspection.

According to an announcement by the Department, because the dust contains small-sized inhalable particles, which may have a negative effect on human health, the public and especially vulnerable population groups (children, the elderly and the sick) are urged to avoid moving in open spaces until the phenomenon has passed.

Employers, it is added, based on the provisions of the Safety and Health at Work Decree of 2022, must take the appropriate measures (organizational or technical), after assessing the risks to their employees who are in open spaces and employees in such places are recommended to use appropriate personal protective equipment.

For information, the last hourly dust concentration values measured at 08:00 a.m. in the following areas were in Nicosia 44.4 μg/m3, in Limassol 132.6 μg/m3, in Larnaca 79.3 μg/m3, in Paralimni 82.8 μg/m3, in Paphos 180.2 μg/m3, in Zygi 126.3 μg/m3 and in Agia Marina Xyliatou 178.6 μg/m3.
