PAFOS LEADS THE WAY - CREATION OF 7 NEW GRAVEL CYCLING ROUTES EXCEEDING 680 km IN PAFOS DISTRICT
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism (ETAP Pafos) announces the completion and official mapping of six (6) new Gravel Cycling routes, along with one (1) long-distance circular route, in the wider Pafos region.
Specifically, two routes start from Pafos–Yeroskipou, two from Akamas Municipality, and two from Polis Chrysochous Municipality, while the seventh long-distance route forms a circular itinerary covering more than 40 communities and exceeding 310 km in length. The six routes collectively cover over 370 km and pass through four municipalities and more than 35 communities across the entire district.
Altogether, the seven routes exceed 680 km in total length—an initiative that firmly places Pafos on the map of the world’s fastest-growing cycling trends.
The routes have been designed according to international gravel quality standards, offering:
safe, low-traffic routes, primarily along natural trails,
a variety of surfaces and technical difficulty levels,
access to unique natural landscapes of the countryside, Akamas, Laona Plateau, and Polis Chrysochous,
connections to eco-tourism and cultural points of interest.
With route lengths and difficulty levels suitable for all rider categories—from beginners to experienced athletes—the routes are expected to become a strong attraction for cyclists from Cyprus and abroad, further strengthening Pafos’s positioning as a year-round destination for special interest tourism.
Their creation represents another step towards the district’s strategic goal of developing sustainable, nature-based, and sports-oriented experiences that are fully aligned with the destination’s natural environment and the philosophy of European green tourism.
Pafos now becomes one of the first destinations in Cyprus to offer a comprehensive Gravel Routes network, providing visitors with a unique connection to nature, high-quality cycling challenges, and opportunities to combine sport, adventure, and culture.
The routes were developed in collaboration with the experts in Activate Cyprus and they are available digitally via GPX files and interactive maps. In addition to their promotion on the specialized Komoot platform, they will soon be added to other international gravel and cycling tourism platforms. At the same time, promotion of both the routes and the destination will be strengthened through international gravel clubs, renowned cyclists via targeted PR actions, and specialized training camp organizers.
