The Department of Meteorology has issued a Yellow Warning for a combination of rains and isolated thunderstorms, valid from today, Tuesday, at 18:00 in the afternoon until tomorrow morning at 08:00.
Low pressure is expected to gradually affect the area, with a temporary deterioration of the weather.
A combination of rains and isolated thunderstorms will affect the island from time to time, initially the western and progressively the rest of the island.
Hail may also fall in a storm while the winds will change and strengthen. The intensity of the rain is likely to locally range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour.
Showers, clouds and dust
Rains, thunderstorms and a slight drop in temperature are expected from Tuesday afternoon, said the Meteorological Officer, Andreas Chrysanthou, while referring to the coming days, he spoke of mainly cloudy weather until Sunday when local rains and isolated thunderstorms will return. He also spoke of increased dust in the atmosphere today and in the next few days.
"This afternoon we expect a disturbance, which will give us local rains and isolated thunderstorms. It is not excluded that we will see hail in the storm, while in the higher mountains it is possible that snow or sleet will fall," he noted, adding that this scene is maintained tonight, but also on Wednesday local rains and isolated thunderstorms will be expected from time to time. "In a storm, it is possible that we will see some hail," he said.
This disturbance is gradually removed from tomorrow onwards, said Mr. Chrysanthou, noting that until Saturday there will be some isolated rains from time to time. Some isolated storms with an intermittently mostly cloudy weather are not excluded, he said.
"In terms of temperature, tomorrow we will have a slight drop of 1-2°C, but by Thursday and Friday we will return to the season's temperatures, close to 17-18°C in the coastal areas, close to 15-16°C inland and around 8-10°C in the higher mountains," he pointed out. "While on Saturday it is possible that some isolated rains will occur, from Sunday a new disturbance will occur again, which will give us a two-day period of local rains and isolated thunderstorms," he added.
"In terms of temperature, an extreme change is not expected, but we may have a drop in temperature from Monday onwards, when temperatures below the average values of the season are expected, while until Sunday the temperatures will fluctuate at seasonal levels," he clarified.
