The Police recommends special attention, in relation to a new form of online fraud, related to applications for obtaining a visa permit – Visitors International Stay Admission, in foreign countries.
According to a complaint submitted today [20/01] to the Police, by a citizen who tried to secure a UK entry visa, a fake website has been identified, which resembles the official website of the United Kingdom through which applications for entry into the country are accepted.
Through the fake website, applicants proceed with the process of issuing an entry permit, entering their personal information, as well as their bank details.
By using this information, the perpetrators of the fraud succeed in extracting sums of money from the applicants' bank accounts.
The Police calls on the public to always be careful in their transactions. Citizens are urged to, before proceeding with any registration or disclosure of their personal data, to verify the identity or status of the persons or organizations with whom they come into any communication or transaction, by communicating through their official, notified communication channels.
