The Markos Mavromichalis Quartet is a contemporary jazz ensemble led by guitarist and composer Markos Mavromichalis. The band presents original compositions that blend modern jazz language with strong melodic identity, interaction, and open improvisation. Drawing from both traditional and contemporary influences, the quartet creates a dynamic and expressive sound that evolves organically in live performance.
The quartet embraces an open-minded musical approach, focusing on storytelling, atmosphere, and communication between the musicians. Each member contributes a distinct voice, shaping a cohesive and authentic group sound that balances creativity, groove, and respect for the jazz tradition.
A few words about the musicians:
Markos Mavromichalis is a Cypriot jazz guitarist and composer, currently based in Cyprus. He studied jazz guitar at Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, where he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. During his time in the Netherlands, he was active in the Dutch jazz scene, leading his own projects and performing at festivals such as North Sea Round Town and Jazz by the Sea. His music combines modern jazz expression with a strong respect for tradition.
Christos Yerolatsitis is a Cypriot pianist and keyboardist with a strong foundation in the post-bop tradition. He holds a BA in Jazz Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and an MA from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Known for his versatility and personal sound, he has performed and recorded with numerous musicians and projects internationally and is currently based in Cyprus.
Kyriacos Kesta is a Cypriot double bassist from Limassol and an active member of the local and international jazz scene. He studied double bass at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, graduating in 2022. He has performed at festivals across Cyprus and Europe, including the Rialto Showcase, Leiden Jazz & Blues Festival, and Krakow Jazz Festival. His work is marked by strong musical interaction and a broad range of collaborations.
Stelios Xydias is a Cypriot jazz drummer who studied Jazz Drums at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam. He has performed extensively across Europe, appearing in various venues and festivals. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Gilad Atzmon, Amos Hofman, and Guthrie Govan, and has recorded with several bands and projects.
