INFORMATION FROM THE FIRE SERVICE - USE OF MULTI-SOCKET PLUGS

Using multi-sockets is very common to connect many different devices at once. However, misusing them can cause overheating, short circuit or even fire. It is generally recommended to avoid using them.
Some basic tips:
▪️ Make sure the multi-socket you are using carries a certificate of suitability.
▪️ Do not connect more devices than the total power of the multi-plug.
▪️ Avoid chain creation — never connect a multi-socket to another multi-socket.
▪️ Do not cover multi-sockets with carpets, curtains, blankets or other flammable materials.
▪️ Regularly check the multi-socket for signs of overheating or damage (e.g. worn or burned cables, smell of plastic, sparks when connecting/disconnecting devices).
▪️ Never touch sockets or switches with wet hands.
▪️ Appliances that consume a lot of energy (e.g. washing machines, refrigerators, heaters) can cause the cables to overheat with a serious risk of ignition, which is why they should be connected directly to the power outlet.
▪️ When the device does not function properly, stop its operation immediately.
In case of an appliance fire:
🔸 If safe, unplug the device from the power or download the general switch.
🔸 Never spill water! Use the right type of fire extinguisher, if you have one. Alternatively, cover the device with a fireproof blanket.
🔸 If the fire is uncontrolled, move away from the area and go outside by closing the doors and windows behind you, to limit the spread of the fire.
🔹 Call the Fire Service at 112, giving clear information about the location and type of fire.
