Filenews 30 January 2026
High concentrations of dust are recorded in the atmosphere on Friday, according to the measurements of the ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labour Inspection.
An announcement states that because the dust contains small respirable particles, which may have a negative effect on human health, the public and especially vulnerable population groups (children, the elderly and patients) are urged to avoid moving in open spaces until the phenomenon has passed.

Employers, based on the provisions of the decree, must take the appropriate measures (organizational or technical), after assessing the risks to their employees who are in open spaces and employees in such spaces are recommended to use appropriate personal protective equipment.
The measurements at ten in the morning were:
- Nicosia 87.0 μg/m3,
- Limassol,106.1 μg/m3, Larnaca 65.8 μg/m3
- Paralimni 53.7 μg/m3 , Paphos 445.4 μg/m3
- Weighing 94.6 μg/m3 and Agia Marina Xyliatou 494.9 μg/m3.

It is noted that "dust" means inhalable suspended particles in the atmosphere with a diameter of less than 10 μm (PM10). According to the legislation, the limit value refers to the average daily value and must not exceed the value of 50 μg/m3 (micrograms per cubic meter).

More information and continuous, immediate information on the results of hourly measurements can be found on www.airquality.gov.cy website and in the "Air Quality Cyprus" application.
