The dynamic and targeted preventive operations of the Police continued during last night, with an enhanced presence in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

In the context of these operations, the Police proceeded to arrest a total of seven (7) persons on a nationwide basis, for cases involving serious criminal and other offenses.

The arrests concerned offenses such as illegal possession of drugs, carrying knives, driving under the influence of alcohol, etc.

At the same time, as part of the investigation of traffic offenses, 15 vehicles were detained.

During the same night, extensive inspections were also carried out on a number of premises, with the aim of preventing and suppressing delinquent behaviours in a timely manner.

As far as the road network is concerned, more than 1,050 inspections were carried out, from which 170 traffic complaints emerged.

Of these, 39 were related to driving under the influence of alcohol, while another 65 were related to exceeding the speed limit.

These operations are part of a broad, continuous and strengthened preventive plan of the Police, with an increased police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action in all provinces, with the aim of preventing crime and strengthening the sense of security of citizens.

A 63-year-old woman was recently found dead in her home in a community in the province of Paphos by a relative.

The Police were informed, members of which rushed to the scene. From the first examinations, according to our information, no external injuries were found on the body of the 63-year-old woman. The Police, however, are investigating the living conditions of the woman and examining the data regarding her death.

The investigations continue.

An alarm was sounded by the authorities, shortly after 4 in the morning today, when information was received about a fire in cars.

According to the Police, the cars were inside a property in Limassol.

The fire, which was extinguished by members of the Fire Service, caused extensive damage to two cars.

The examinations continue from the TAE of Limassol.

On 23/1/2025, officials of the Customs Department at Larnaca Airport, after evaluating information, proceeded to check the luggage of two departing passengers (one Turkish Cypriot and one Bulgarian) bound for the United Kingdom. Large quantities of cigarettes were found in the luggage of the 2 passengers, the packaging of which did not bear markings on the harmful to health in the Greek and Turkish languages, an indication that they are duty-free.

Specifically:

– A total of 72 boxes of 200 cigarettes each were found in 2 luggage of the Turkish Cypriot passenger.

– A total of 87 boxes of 200 cigarettes each and 12 packs of 20 cigarettes each were found in the luggage of the Bulgarian passenger.

The two passengers were arrested for flagrante delicto, while the luggage with its contents was confiscated.

The next day they were taken to the Paphos District Court which issued a 4-day detention order to facilitate the investigative work undertaken by the Paphos Customs.
