The attention of citizens in relation to telephone fraud is drawn by the Police, as the fraudsters have already managed to extort money.
A relevant announcement states that the Police recommend caution to the public in relation to telephone fraud. Astute people are said to be calling unsuspecting citizens, from phone numbers that appear to be Cypriot.
Speaking in Greek or English, they inform the potential victims that they have allegedly won a sum of money and that in order to claim it, they will have to open an account on an online investment platform.
Citizens who may receive such calls are asked to be suspicious and NOT to respond to the instructions they receive from the fraudsters, who aim to deceive them financially.
